OA PROGRAM LOGO

Craven SPORT Services is pleased to offer an Osteoarthritis Exercise Intervention Program, based on the GLA:D Canada osteoarthritis exercise program. The program combines education sessions and neuro-muscular training over 12 weeks to provide an effective, evidence-based program for those with osteoarthritis.

“Research from the GLA:D Program has shown a reduction in progression of symptoms by 32%.”
To learn more about GLA:D Canada, visit their website: http://gladcanada.ca/

Clients of the CSS Osteoarthritis Exercise Intervention program have experienced first-hand the power of exercise in reducing a reliance on pain medication, improving symptoms, and enabling a return to regular (or new) activity.

By working alongside the CSS Osteoarthritis Team, you’ll have the opportunity to gain improved control of this extremely common chronic condition through a combination of evidence-based education, movement, and strength training.

This program is led by CSS physiotherapists:

Frequently Asked Questions - OA

We use the GLA:D® (Good Life with osteoArthritis in Denmark) program as the foundation of our OA program. GLA:D® is an evidence-based education and exercise approach for people with hip or knee osteoarthritis. It is designed to reduce symptoms, improve function, and empower you to move confidently in daily life.
If you experience joint pain, stiffness, or reduced mobility in your hips or knees — especially during activities like walking, climbing stairs, or rising from a chair — this program can help. Research shows that targeted education and exercise are among the most effective ways to manage osteoarthritis. Whether your discomfort is mild or longstanding, you can expect improvements in strength, mobility, and confidence.
This program is designed for anyone with osteoarthritis or related conditions affecting the hip or knee — whether you’re recently diagnosed, managing chronic symptoms, or hoping to delay or avoid surgery. If you’re looking to reduce pain, move more easily, and return to activities you enjoy, you’re in the right place.

Our Osteoarthritis Program goes beyond standard exercise classes. Every participant receives:

  • 1:1 assessment and ongoing supervision from a registered physiotherapist

  • Small-group sessions for personalized guidance and progression

  • Access to our multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, strength & conditioning coaches, and other clinicians

  • Continued support options like Exercise for Life and Supervised Training after the initial program

Our goal is to empower you with skills and confidence — not just for 12 weeks, but for the long term.

You’ll begin with an in-person education session and supporting learning materials that cover osteoarthritis, pain management, and the role of exercise. From there, you’ll attend supervised exercise sessions twice weekly for 12 weeks, focusing on strength, stability, and quality of movement. Each session is adapted to your abilities and comfort. At the end of the program, we complete an exit assessment to celebrate your progress and plan the best next steps. Many participants continue with Exercise for Life to maintain their gains.
Yes! While consistency is ideal, you’ll still benefit even if you need to miss a few sessions. Your physiotherapist will provide alternatives or at-home options so you can stay on track. The structure, coaching, and education built into the program ensure you still gain valuable tools for managing osteoarthritis long-term.
The 12-week Intro to OA Program costs $500, and ongoing Exercise for Life sessions are $360 per 12-week cycle. Because sessions are led by registered physiotherapists, most extended health benefit plans cover a portion of the cost. We recommend checking your plan details before starting.
Many participants notice positive changes — such as less pain, easier movement, and improved strength — within a few weeks. Everyone progresses differently based on consistency, effort, and how long symptoms have been present. The program is designed to support lasting and meaningful improvements over time.
After the introductory phase, you can transition into our Exercise for Life program — an ongoing small-group option to maintain and build on your progress. You may also choose Supervised Training sessions to continue working on your individualized plan with expert oversight. Your physiotherapist will review your goals and help you choose the best path forward.
